Book Signing Nov 17 – Harper Unleashed

Kenneth Bloom will be at the Vendor and Artisan’s Fair on Nov 17th at Mount Vernon Creates for his new book signing.  You might recognize this name from this year’s Lincoln Highway Arts Festival in Mount Vernon, IA.

This book is the 4th in a series of detective stories. Harper, the protagonist, hears that a 9 year old girl is missing. It’s January and she fears the worst. “I’ve got to find her John!” Her husband can’t fathom why the girl’s disappearance has become personal, but there are so many events in Harper’s past that she won’t share. What is clear is this case will unleash every ounce of power she possesses.

Portrayal of Mount Vernon Exhibition

The Portrayal artists were out in full force on Oct 6th. The day was quite damp but, the artists persisted.  I love seeing the artists creating all over town.  It is so exciting to see the progression on each piece of work from a blank canvas to a finished master piece or taking someone’s vision to recording it in a photo.  I also enjoy the feeling of the artists community sharing inspirations with each other.

Please come enjoy this exhibition at Mount Vernon Creates:

Opening Reception – November 23rd, 2018 (6 – 8 pm)
Exhibition – November 19th – January 25th, 2018

Portrayal Artist: Nancy Lindsay
Portrayal Artist: Eli Ehlinger

Artist Challenge…

I often wonder why artists get anxious when asked to do a commissioned piece of art work. Some of you know that recently I have been doing quite a few pieces of art work that are very large, abstract and vibrant. I was challenged recently to create a piece where the topic was “Nightmare on 7th AV”.  This in itself spoke to me as something that needed to be dark and mysterious or Halloween themed (I even thought about including spiders and skeletons at one point).

It took me a while to wrap my brain around something I could produce that would still be artistic and recognized as something I would create since this theme just wasn’t speaking to me. I thought about this for quite some time and even did a couple of tests in which I was resistant to using bright colors.  I even thought about just saying, no.

I’d say third times a charm and I am pleased that I decided to use twilight purple, which brings me to the name “Twilight”.  Persistence pays off…an artist should stay true to them self.

Thanks friends at DKW Gallery for the challenge…
