MVMS Mustang Fundraiser

This auction is an opportunity to support the Mount Vernon Middle School students, staff and programs.

**You must be over 18 years old to bid in this auction.**

It is with great appreciation that we thank the Mount Vernon Area Arts Council (MVAAC, mvaac.org) – the sponsor of this online auction. MVAAC members also shared their time and talents with us by creating some of the wonderful art pieces listed here.

Most of the other pieces were created by MVMS students; a staff member and a couple of parents created pieces as well. When possible, names of the artist are provided in the item listing.

Artists and students were given a wooden cutout of the school’s mustang logo and were asked to express themselves however they desired. The dimensions of ALL of the pieces are approximately 28.5 inches from nose to tail and about 16 inches from the highest point of the mane to the lowest point on the hooves.

MVMS PRIDE thanks our primary sponsor, Gordon Lumber Company for the donation of all of the wood for this project.

We are also grateful to art teacher Mark Benesh who helped develop the idea of this auction. In addition, Benesh and our principal, Bob Haugse and his father, Tom Haugse cut out each of the mustang silhouettes that were painted by our students and local artists.

Bob Haugse and Patty Mote also headed up the distribution of wood materials and collection of completed works – we certainly couldn’t have done this without their support – thank you!

Happy to support such a wonderful cause, Denise!

Unbridled Spirits Opening Art Reception Dec 7th

Please join us for the Unbridled Spirits Opening Art Reception Dec 7th.  This opening reception celebrates the artists that participated on Oct 21 creating art at Unbridled Spirits and the many supporters of this wonderful ranch.  6 – 8 pm.

Unbridled Spirits is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 2012 and based out of Lisbon, Iowa.

This is the ONLY off-track thoroughbred retirement sanctuary in the entire Midwest whose transition process includes a full-time pasture retirement option! Yes, there are some amazing facilities that offer career transitioning to an other sport like dressage, eventing, hunter jumper, and more…. But there are no other sanctuaries that allow the horses to run free on over 100 acres and just learn how to be horses again!

The mission is to preserve the honor and dignity of these amazing athletes by offering a retirement option to these racing thoroughbreds whose racing, breeding, and competitive careers come to an end.

When a racing star leaves the track or the breeding shed, they still have a large fan-following and a tourist appeal… not to mention a desire for love and affection, same as any horse! We care what happens to these horses, and so many others do as well.

Portrayal of Mount Vernon Exhibition

The Portrayal artists were out in full force on Oct 6th. The day was quite damp but, the artists persisted.  I love seeing the artists creating all over town.  It is so exciting to see the progression on each piece of work from a blank canvas to a finished master piece or taking someone’s vision to recording it in a photo.  I also enjoy the feeling of the artists community sharing inspirations with each other.

Please come enjoy this exhibition at Mount Vernon Creates:

Opening Reception – November 23rd, 2018 (6 – 8 pm)
Exhibition – November 19th – January 25th, 2018
