10th Frosted Cupcakes will join us for Heritage Days from 10 – 4 (or til’ sold out), lots of varieties of Almost Famous popcorn as well. Yum!!!
16th Denise’s Art opening at Artisans Sanctuary in Cedar Rapids 6 – 8 pm, join us for the opening reception. All are welcome. They have moved to their new space in CR. Many of the pieces in this exhibit were created during 2020/21.

2021 WaMaC Art Show Press Release
The annual WaMaC conference art exhibit featuring the work of student artists from Beckman, Maquoketa, Marion, Mount Vernon, Solon, and West Delaware High Schools will be open to the public Saturday, April 17th from noon to 4:00pm in the front lobby of the Mount Vernon High School Performing Arts Center at 731 Palisades Rd SW, Mt Vernon, IA. The exhibit will feature the top 120 works of art including drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, design, photography, and ceramics. Each category will be awarded first, second, and third honors as well as a best in show and student choice.

Portrayal of Mount Vernon Call to Artists
Calling all artists: Our event this year will be April 24 – 25th. Please let us know if you would like to participate in this year’s event and exhibition.

Vendor/Artist Fair Feb 19 – 20th from 10 – 3 pm
All – MV Businesses are promoting a shop local event on Feb 19 and 20th. Mount Vernon Creates is having a vendor/artist fair during that time. This event will require masks and social distancing.
One of the artists who will be showing their work during this event is Don Dixson. Don makes beautiful fabric pieces. These pieces will be displayed ad for sale during this two day pop-up event.
Stop in to see Don and his artistry as well as all of the local artwork we have on display.
Mount Vernon Creates has 14 local artists displayed and 5 wineries with 40 plus selections. We will be offering samples of a few of our wines during this two day event.
Monthly Writer’s Night
Our next monthly writer’s night is Feb 25th from 7 – 8:30 pm. Join us to read or observe. Wine, beer, non-alcoholic beverages and snacks available for purchase.
Prepare a 10 min reading of your choosing. Selections should be from something you have written.

MV Poet Laureate
The Mount Vernon Area Arts Council is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Poet Laureate of Mount Vernon. Applicants must live within 12 miles of Mount Vernon.
In general, the role of the Poet Laureate/Writer-in-Residence of Mount Vernon is to promote the written word as art within the community. The position has two specific requirements:
- Compose and present an original piece at the annual Mount Vernon Memorial Day commemoration.
- Organize at least one public event to celebrate the written word.
The Poet Laureate/Writer-in-Residence of Mount Vernon receives a $500 annual stipend from the Mount Vernon Area Arts Council. The MVAAC also offers programmatic support for the selected candidate. For more information and application materials, visit mvaac.org.
