Mount Vernon Creates is proud to present our Post it Note show.  We are looking to all of the non-artists and artists out there of all ages to get involved in this wonderful show.  Stop in any time in March to create your 3 x 3 post it note drawing or bring it in for the show.  We will be creating a community exhibit out of everyone’s piece.

Groups are welcome to participate, i.e. schools, staff, teams, etc.

Free to participate.

This auction is an opportunity to support the Mount Vernon Middle School students, staff and programs.

It is with great appreciation that we thank the Mount Vernon Area Arts Council (MVAAC, mvaac.org) – the sponsor of this online auction. MVAAC members also shared their time and talents with us by creating some of the wonderful art pieces listed here.

Most of the other pieces were created by MVMS students; a staff member and a couple of parents created pieces as well. When possible, names of the artist are provided in the item listing.

Artists and students were given a wooden cutout of the school’s mustang logo and were asked to express themselves however they desired. The dimensions of ALL of the pieces are approximately 28.5 inches from nose to tail and about 16 inches from the highest point of the mane to the lowest point on the hooves.

MVMS PRIDE thanks our primary sponsor, Gordon Lumber Company for the donation of all of the wood for this project.

We are also grateful to art teacher Mark Benesh who helped develop the idea of this auction. In addition, Benesh and our principal, Bob Haugse and his father, Tom Haugse cut out each of the mustang silhouettes that were painted by our students and local artists.

Bob Haugse and Patty Mote also headed up the distribution of wood materials and collection of completed works – we certainly couldn’t have done this without their support – thank you!

I often wonder why artists get anxious when asked to do a commissioned piece of art work. Some of you know that recently I have been doing quite a few pieces of art work that are very large, abstract and vibrant. I was challenged recently to create a piece where the topic was “Nightmare on 7th AV”.  This in itself spoke to me as something that needed to be dark and mysterious or Halloween themed (I even thought about including spiders and skeletons at one point).

It took me a while to wrap my brain around something I could produce that would still be artistic and recognized as something I would create since this theme just wasn’t speaking to me. I thought about this for quite some time and even did a couple of tests in which I was resistant to using bright colors.  I even thought about just saying, no.

I’d say third times a charm and I am pleased that I decided to use twilight purple, which brings me to the name “Twilight”.  Persistence pays off…an artist should stay true to them self.
